Master Class Preview | Master invites you to walk into the magnificent world of oboe

During the school year series, CCPS invited the famous oboe musicians of Germany, Washington Barellaand Christian Wetzel, to bring master classes for students and music lovers, and to experience the charm of the oboe at zero distance.

Washington Barella

Washington Barellais a winner in important international competitions. In 1990, he won the first prize of the "Music and Artists Association International New York Competition". He won the championship in the ARD in the Munich International Competition in Germany the following year. Since then, he has been performing in the world's most famous concert hall. Therefore, the New York Times praised his "superb craftsmanship."

When Washington Barrera was in Brazil, he performed with the Campinas Symphony Orchestra and the San Pablo National Symphony Orchestra. He received a DAAD scholarship and studied at the Hannover School of Music in Germany. He later obtained an artist diploma in Hartford, United States. Today, he is known worldwide as an oboe player.

Christian Wetzel

In addition to teaching, he also participated in many world-class music festivals as a soloist and chamber music member. He is also the founder of the wood tube quintet "Ma'a lot brass-quintett", which has won numerous international awards, including the ARD competition in Munich. In more than 20 years, individuals in Germany and around the world have also received a large number of important awards.

Christian Wetzelstudied under Professor Ingo Goritzki in Hannover and was awarded a scholarship to the German People’s Academic Foundation during his schooling. He had already started performing in the European Community Youth Orchestra while he was in college. After completing his studies, Christian Wetzelworked as an oboe player at the National Theater Orchestra in Mannheim. From 1997 to 2007, he served as oboe professor at Mendelsohn University of Music and Theatre in Leipzig.

Christian Wetzelteaches many master classes on a global scale and is a visiting professor at famous music universities such as the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Vienna Music University. He is also a judge of many important competitions in the world.
