Wu Yuanchun, born in Beijing, was deeply influenced by his father and studied violin at the age of four, taught by Chai Liang, a famous violinist and memberof the academic decision-making committee of Central Conservatory Preparatory School(CCPS).

His two defeats in his senior high school entrance examination made Wu Yuanchun feel frustration. However, after she came to CCPS, she rallied her forces againand showed a higher talent in music.

This spring, three American music colleges sent acceptance letters to Wu Yuanchun, including College-Conservatory of Music.

Forthe first-time Wu Yuanchun was preparing for the end-of-term concert at CCPS on17th June. She played two tracks at the concert: one was a terzetto with her classmates and the other was her solo track “Violin Concerto No.2 in G Minor” of Prokofiev.

The melody of this work is romantic and highly personalized. After the performance from the violin master Heifeitz, it became one of the important tracks in the violinart history of the twentieth century. As such a heavy weight piece of work, WuYuanchun picked it up somewhat perturbed.

With her techniques, she couldsuccessfully complete this work. But she alsoadmitted: “Listening to a masterpiece played by great masters like Heifeitz, Imyself felt very unconfident and don’t think I could play well like them.” Having said that, her bright eyes seemed somewhat bleak, but soon she became happy again and pick up her violin to practice in the piano room. She said: “Preparation for a concert can actually take a lifetime.”

01.CCPS is a turning point in her life

Thanks to her father’s influence, Wu Yuanchun began studying the violin at the age off our. Like many young violin players, she was often beaten during violin practice, but afterwards she would continue to practice until she was in the 9th Grade. Wu’s father understood the great importance of 9th Grade, which not only determines the three years of life in high school, but also determines the direction ofher entrance into a good university.

Wu Yuanchun frankly said that her performance of culture courses in junior highschool was not satisfactory. Even after flunking in the Central Conservatory of Music Middle School, she failed the entrance examination of The Affiliated High School of China Conservatory of Music due to the poor grades in culture courses.Three years ago, CCPS, a new school, was not her first choice, but a feelingshe had at that time helped her on choosing CCPS. She smiled frankly with her youthful innocence and said, “I do not know what that feeling wasyet, but excluding the consideration of teachers, it was such a powerful feeling that convinced me to go to the College-Conservatory of Music. As it turns out I was right!”

02.Success after accumulation of three years

Applying for the College-Conservatory of Music of America was a long process. From the beginning of school, CCPS would set out a suitable study plan and career planfor all the students, providing counseling throughout their school life.

During school, Wu Yuanchun participated in several international exchange activities organizedby CCPS, such as master classes taught by teachers in the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, master classes by David Ehrlich, a master in chamber music, and master classes by Cleveland Bader. She also played Duolaimi and BigChick Parent-child Story Concert in Beijing Concert Hall with her classmates. At the same time, she also volunteered in the “Sail of Music Project”, aproject funded for children. These experiences have given her a deeper understanding of the violin and music, as well as paving her way for entering the College-Conservatory of Music.

The College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) is a world-renowned music school, which ranks in sixth place in the American music schools in the U.S. News and WorldReport. Since its founding, the College-Conservatory of Music school has cultivated many talents for world-famous symphony orchestras. Many violinists of orchestras are graduates from CCM, and the cultivation of musicians inchamber music and violinists has become two “trump cards” of CCM. Many studentsare already budding in Hollywood, Broadway and famous symphony orchestras during school time.

Duringher second year in high school, Wu Yuanchun made a special trip to visit someof her favorite music schools in the United States, and finally set her owngoal College-Conservatory of Music. She said, “You just need to keep trying, and finally you’ll naturally know which school you should go to.”

During her process of applying for the College-Conservatory of Music, Teachers Chai Liang and Jin Ping wrote letters of recommendation for her. Teacher Jin Ping was once a doctor of composition at College-Conservatory of Music in the United States. Teacher Chai Liang once studied at the Juilliard School of Music in the United States. The two teachers’ recommendation letters became a big help forher applying to universities.

Inaddition, the application for foreign schools also needed qualifying TOFEL scores. The performance of her first two exams were not satisfactory. The English teacher gave her a one-to-one counseling tutorial. coupled with her ownhard work, Wu Yuanchun achieved great improvements in her TOFEL grades in ashort term, successfully passing the English scores required by College-Conservatory of Music.

With 3 offers, high TOFEL scores, and College-Conservatory of Music, Wu Yuanchunfinally bloomed with success after three years of really hard work.

03.“My life has never been boring because of the violin.”

WuYuanchun is a girl who loves to laugh. With a careless character, she often laughs with tightly shut eyes. She’s always unfettered in front of the camera, and herself-portraits can be scraped together as a set of emoji packages. These are the portrayals of her life. However, when she picked up the violin, she is calmand leisurely. Surrounded by music, she is like a different Wu Yuanchun.

The courses in CCPS are very full, including not only music courses, but also international courses like English and World Literature, as well as Chinese courses. Students can seldom pare much free time in a week. Under such a schedule,it’s a challenge for students, since they also must ensure a certain amount of time to practice their instruments. In their free time, many students willbe untenable, but Wu Yuanchun said, “thanks to my violin, my life has never been boring.”

04.“We are like gears, always fitting together”

When the good news that Wu Yuanchun was admitted to College-Conservatory of Music in the United States spread to the school, all her classmates were very happy forher. Her best friend Zhang Biyao, a flute major in the 2nd grade of highschool, joked to Wu Yuanchun: “After you go to the United States, will not work so hard any more. What if you get tired and sick since no one is over there to take care of you?” Zhang Biyao also gave Wu Yuanchun a suggestion that if she can express her leadership skills, it will help with her development. As for her relationship with classmates, Wu Yuanchun said: “Although we are different from each other, we are just like gears,we fit together.”

As for teachers of the music department of CCPS they have said that Wu Yuanchun is avery honest and kind girl. She knows what she wants and has a clear vision ofher own future along with good goals.
