Colburn Music Academy -- "Curtis and Juliard" on the west coast of the United States
As is known to all, the JulliardSchooland the Curtis Institute of Music,with a hundred year’s history and excellent teachers and students, are twoleadingmusic institutions in the United States and even in the world.
On October 10th, AdrianDaly, dean of Studies of the Colburn Music Academy attend the specialcommunication meetingwith our teachers and students in CCPS. After the meeting,Dalywas interviewed by the CCPSabout the cultivate students and school facts.
| Chinese students should pay moreattention to musicality |
Wang Xiaohua, a major in Viola in CCPS,is about to apply for a college. Wang first asked about the overall informationof Chinese students in Colburn. And Adrian Daly replied that there were notmany Chinese students in Colburnbut they wereall very serious, focused andskilled. Except of skills, Adrian Daly emphasizedthat musicalitywas moreimportant and skills not representativesfor music.
Just like Adrian Daly said, to be amusician need to think more. Thinkingis not just on the knowledge of musicitself, but also on other subjects.
Apart from the study of musiccourses, students will also study English and Chinese courses in CCPS.Like Bachand Mozart have discovered the relationship between mathematics and music,studentscould discover the beauty of music through other subjects and understandwhat music is. CCPSlocated at the core of Beijing’sheartland, is adjacent to the National Center for the PerformingArts, Forbidden City ConcertHall and other top-level music halls.

Wang Xiaohua, the junior highschool student in the CCPS who wantsdevelop towardschamber music, is veryinterested in Colburn’s chamber musicand performance opportunities offered. Adrian Daly says that Colburn hasattached great importance to chamber music, and chamber music is a weekly class.Theconcert was routinely heldat Colburn every week as well.
Well aware of the importanceofchamber music, CCPS established the chamber musicgroup in 2014. In 2015, ChaiLiangled the chamber music bandonthe United Statestour, and the performance at JohnF. Kennedy Arts Center in Washingtonwas broadcast online. Members of the group also have performed with theAccentsymphony orchestraat the Beijing Concert Hall. On October 23th, theywillcontinue to perform in the Beijing Concert HallDoremi and Big Grey Plane --'Orange Party and Nutcracker' Concert.

With relatively small scale andsmall population, Colburn Music Academy is just like a family for students to knoweach other very well.Students usually have manytasks to do, so they cancommunication more with others. At the same time, the small-class is convenientfor teachingstudents according to their aptitude, so as to ensure students'balanced and all-round development.
The CCPS has built aninternationalcultural platformfor students who love music and spared no efforts to internationalcommunication. Whittier College,near to Los Angeles of California,had visit toCCPS;Bard Collegewith a long history has set up the admission center of the Beijingare and held a public violin course as well; Cleveland Institute of Musicheld amaster class in CCPS; Pianists and violinistsof Manhattan School of Musichad visitedour school. All the international exchange activities haveset up a connection between Chinese and foreign, so that students in CCPS andChina have anbetter understanding of foreign music, thus making the pertinence applicationfor studying abroad.
